April Church News

Dear Family of Faith,

Oh, how I miss meeting with you! Our physical distance from each other, however, means healing for our town, our nation and our world, so I’m sure you will join me in believing it is worth it!

You will notice that with the exception of online worship and an Easter Lunch, the entire calendar page has been “scratched out.” It is not that the scratched events SHOULD be removed, but they MUST be if we are to be a part of the solution rather than a continuation of the problem.

Having said that, committees, feel free to find creative ways to “meet!” Conference calls are a possibility. Text or e-mail correspondence is easy these days. Our elders are also considering the use of an online meeting software called “Zoom” that I’m sure will prove to be helpful.

Personally, I believe there is a lot of good that God plans to do through us in the face of this crisis. What might it be?
• Judy Thompson acquired lots of cloth for “Helping Hands Sunday” to make face masks; wouldn’t it be great if that could be an ongoing project?
• Bill Hays mentioned how great it would be if churches could offer a “drive-by meal” each day to feed people who have suddenly lost their paycheck due to the virus.
• Since hand-sanitizer is consistently out of stock at the stores, my family has learned how to make it. What if we were to have a hand-sanitizer ministry? (It’s too bad we haven’t learned how to make toilet paper!)
As individuals, as committees and as a church, let’s consider: “How might we be a light to the world in the midst of this crisis?” As disciples of Jesus, we must be considering how He would have us respond!

AS FOR THE CALENDAR …

  1. Online Worship Services: the calendar shows how to find our services online (“YouTube.com”). Join us there each week during this Covid-19 crisis! HUGE THANKS to Garrett Lundberg who has dedicated countless hours to making these online services possible!
  2. Easter Lunch: Despite the fact we will not be able to worship together on Easter, your Fellowship Committee has decided to offer us an Easter treat! They will gather in the church kitchen on Easter morning to prepare an Easter lunch for us! Please let the committee know if you would like to take part in this meal by calling or e-mailing the church office (394-3583; mena1pres@sbcglobal.net). Let them know how many will eat and whether you are able to drive by and pick up your lunch, or if you need to have it delivered to your home.
